Frequently Asked Questions

How fit do I need to be?

Our Paris to Versailles ride is moderate and designed for active travelers. You don’t need to be a competitive cyclist, but you should feel comfortable riding 35–75 km (20–45 miles) at a steady pace with rolling hills.

If you’re unsure, contact us — we’re happy to advise.

Is the route safe?

Accidents can always happen, but we prioritize safety and suggest riders get familiar with the rules of the road in France (we drive and bike on the right side of the road). The rides do start in the heart of Paris, but we stick to mostly bike lanes and get to the forest within 45 minutes to 1 hour. We prioritize scenic, mostly car-free bike paths and forest trails. Safety is always our top priority, and group size is limited to ensure proper pacing and guidance.

Do you ride in the rain?

We ride rain or shine. Light rain is part of the adventure. In cases of severe or unsafe weather, we will offer to reschedule or refund. See the cancellation policy below.

Are the tours private?

Yes. All Revel Rides experiences are private or small-group (maximum 4 riders per guide), ensuring a personalized and curated experience.

Do I need to bring my own bike?

You are welcome to bring your own road or gravel bike.

Premium Origine gravel bike rentals are available for €80 per day. Helmets are included.

What should I bring?

  • Water bottle(s)

  • Weather-appropriate cycling gear

  • Snacks or fuel (especially for longer rides)

  • Comfortable athletic clothing

  • Sunscreen and sunglasses

  • Check the full packing list, here.

How long is the ride?

Half-Day: approximately 35–45 km (2–3 hours riding time)

Full-Day: 50–75 km (4–6 hours including stops)

Distance may vary slightly depending on route adjustments and how much fun we're having!

Can beginners join?

We advise against beginner cyclists taking our tours as it requires several hours of cycling, with decent climbs and gravel trails. We of course adjust the ride's pace for the riders, but if you’re a beginner or at all hesitant, we recommend contacting us before booking to ensure the ride is the right fit.

What happens when we arrive in Versailles?

We approach Versailles just after the forest for grand arrival to the Chateau of Versailles. Depending on the tour option, you’ll have time to pick up a sandwich or salad at a local bakery, get a coffee at a coffee shop, relax along the Grand Canal in the Palace Gardens, explore the grounds, take a bathroom break, etc. before making our journey back to Paris.
